China has 1.2 billion people, obviously there are not enough
seats for every one in most public facilities.
Fighting for limited resources
is an everyday routine, and Zhan Zuo (Zhan means
to grab, Zuo means seat, Zhan Zuo means grab seats)
ranks very high on the list of much needed surviving skills. The purpose of grabbing
seats is to take seats for relatives, friends, classmates or coworkers who are
coming up later. The seat grabbers must be strong enough to fight their way to
the very front of waiting line, and they will punch a little girl in the face
if they have to.
