Don't be surprised when you see a middle aged lady sitting in an elevator all day long. She is just doing her job - Kan Dian Ti (Kan means watch, Dian means electric, Ti means ladder, Dian Ti means elevator).


Job title (informal):
Kan Dian Ti De (somebody watching the elevator, or elevator operator)

Job Description (simple):
Operate the elevator and make sure no one can touch the control panel of the elevator, and no one can use the elevator under the fifth floor.

Most elevator operators choose to Da Mao Huor (Da means knit, Mao means woolen, Huor means small business, Mao Huor - woolen related small business - often refers to a sweater, Da Mao Huor is to knit a sweater)
Da Mao Huor needs Mao Xian (knitting wool), Mao Yi Zhen (knitting needle), and of course, Cha (tea) as well.


While you are not supposed to touch the control panel yourself, you must report the floor number to the Kan Dian Ti De, and she will use her Mao Yi Zhen (Yi means cloth, Mao Yi means sweater, Mao Yi Zhen means knitting needle) to operate the control panel so she can remain in the sitting position.
