At school meetings, one of the lingdao (people with guiding or directing
positions; leading administrators) on the stage is giving a speech
to the audience. Lingdao is a very respectful word, and it's not
a specific title, so it can be used to describe a wide range of
cadres. Because 'lingdao' doesn't reveal the details of rank, cadres
of all different statuses can enjoy a moment of equality when it
becomes time for introduction to the public.
Yanghunzi, himself now a lingdao, spends all his time seated on
the stage looking at his wife in the audience. He notices, though,
that one other guy keeps looking at her too...

Location: Home
At home, confident husbands when talking to friends will often refer
to their wife as their 'lingdao' to comfort the woman in the family,
where men play the more important role. However, many wives do take
the title seriously and act accordingly.
Yanghunzi's wife married him because he is a lingdao, which means
better cloth and rice portions for her. To protect her position,
she has to deal harshly with anyone who dares to question her authority
in the family.
Today, Yanghunzi asks his wife, "I saw someone at the meeting
looking at you the whole time, but you don't know him, right?"
As for his wife, this is the perfect time to excercise her 'lingdao'
skill...
