| EUROPE IP LAW SEARCH - NEW LEGAL PLATFORM FOR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY IN THE EU, Beijing, 12 May 2010 |
Senior Officials from the European Commission, the European Union Delegation to China, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, and academic representatives from Peking University came together on Wednesday to launch the ‘Europe IP Law Search’ – a new addition to the widely-used legal search tool, ‘China IP Law Search‘.
Europe IP Law Search is a free-of-charge search tool designed to help users find and access legal resources on the current legislative framework of intellectual property protection and enforcement in Europe. The search tool enables users to access legal texts in the key areas of IP including Patents, Trademarks, Copyrights, Customs, Internet-related, Competition etc across a range of legislation, Directives, Regulations,. Protocols, Conventions etc and law-making bodies.
Mr Koos Richelle, Director-General of the EuropeAid Co-operation Office and Mr Serge Abou, Ambassador of the EU Delegation to China together with Mr Yang Guohua, Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Commerce of P.R China introduced the new features of the tool and explained how it fits into the overall picture of strengthening connections between China and the EU in both the IP field and economic relations in general, to an audience of lawyers, trademark and patent agents, professors and students, legal researchers, chambers of commerce, EU Member States embassies and data providers.

| MOOT COURT - IPR2 AT WORLD EXPO 2010 SHANGHAI, 4 September 2010 |
| Protecting IPR at trade fairs: Analysis of European and Chinese enforcement proceedings in a moot court setting IPR2 will be present at this year’s World Expo in Shanghai with activities dedicated to building awareness of the importance of IP protection and enforcement. Hosted in the EU Pavilion which has thematic displays representing ‘Intelligent Europe’, this includes an issue of international relevance – how to protect and enforce intellectual property rights at trade fairs. Adopting a ‘moot court’ setting to simulate proceedings for the same infringement case, experts from Europe and China will compare and contrast the European and Chinese enforcement systems. |

| STUDY TOUR - EU-China study tour on on-line copyright protection, France, Belgium, Germany, 10-19 May 2010 |
| A delegation of judiciary from the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), Chinese High Courts and Intermediary Courts participated in a study tour to Europe on the protection of copyrights on the internet. Six judges, experienced in the adjudication of cases of online piracy, were informed on European procedures for protecting copyrights on the internet and the latest developments of legislation and landmark cases in this field, as part of helping to increase capacity to adjudicate and handle IP cases and build long-term links with European judicial counterparts. |

| WORKSHOP - EU-China workshop on trade secrets protection, Qingdao, 20-21 May 2010 |
| IPR2, together with the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) and the Shandong Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce, organised an expert workshop on the legal framework governing the protection of trade secrets. More than 50 Chinese and European academics, officials and practitioners working the field of trade secrets protection came together to review and provide suggestions for the amendment of the Chinese legal system. |

| TRAINING - National Judges College |
| IPR2 supported the National Judges College (NJC), China's training institution for the courts, under the Supreme People's Court (SPC). More than 200 members of the High, Intermediary and Local Courts received training on European and international experiences of judicial protection of IP rights as part of building their capacity to adjudicate and handle IP cases and to promote further exchanges in this field. |

| EU-China training on IP European Intellectual Property Law, 15-17 October 2010, Shanghai |
The China-EU School of Law (CESL) is hosting a training course on European Intellectual Property Law for lawyers and other legal professionals in the Madrid Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo 2010. For a second year, the three-day training will provide an overview of European IP law, its protection and enforcement in Europe, aiming to improve the knowledge of Chinese professionals involved in legal and business transactions with Europe. Registration is now open.

The IPR2 Roadmaps provide information on the IP systems in China and Europe and to give guidance to both European and Chinese companies in protecting their IP. All issues are available to download free-of-charge from www.ipr2.org/roadmap and are also provided on a compilation CD.

JUNE 2010
EU-China study tour on Trademark Law and IP-related aspects of Civil Procedure Law, The Netherlands, France, Switzerland, 30 May-5 June 2010
IPR2 is supporting a study tour of officials from the Legislative Affairs Commission (LAC) responsible for drafting the up and coming revision of the Trademark Law and Civil Procedure Law. The delegates, from the economic and civil law offices of LAC, will meet with European justice and economic ministries, trademark offices, academic, research and IP institutes, courts, industry associations and law firms as well as representatives from the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) and the World Trade Organisation (WTO), as part of gathering and exchanging information relevant to their drafting work.
EU-China study tour on trademark registration and judicial review; Spain and Germany; 5-12 June 2010
IPR2 will organise a study tour for a delegation of officials from the State Administration of Industry and Commerce (SAIC) and trade mark judges to Spain, Luxembourg and Germany, to build knowledge of on the European trademark system and support an exchange of expertise between Chinese and European officials and judges on emerging trademark registration and judicial review issues.
EU-China roving seminars on the Chinese trademark system, Spain and Germany, 9 and 11 June 2010
IPR2, together with the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC), will organise two one-day seminars in Madrid and Munich on the China’s trademark system. The seminars will also address SAIC’s management of the system, including business tools, performance and statistical information as well as quality and customer care. European industry interested in doing business with China and trademark holders already engaging in trademark protection are invited to participate.
EU-China symposium on the interface between Competition and Intellectual Property Law, Dalian, 10-11 June 2010
IPR2 is supporting the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) in organising a comprehensive exchange on the interface between competition and IP laws. The recent entering into force of China’s Anti-Monopoly Law (AML) raises an important issue of how to balance the rights arising from IP law, contract law and AML; an area in which Europe has accumulated much experience. The Symposium will address procedural and substantive issues in cases under the AML and the close relationship between competition cases and its interface with other legislation, notably IP laws which are particularly complex and have recently become one of the hot topics in international judicial protection of IP.
International Seminar on IP protection of software, Dalian, 23 June 2010
IPR2 is supporting the ‘International Seminar on Intellectual Property Protection of Software’, organised by the China Association of Trade in Services (CATIS) as entrusted by the Ministry of Commerce, with the support of the Copyright Protection Centre of China (CPCC) and the Dalian Copyright Protection Association.

JULY 2010
EU-China study tour on implementation of Anti-Unfair Competition Law, UK, France, Germany, 4–14 July 2010
IPR2 is supporting a study tour of officials from the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) to help build knowledge on the European anti-unfair competition system and increase the exchange between Chinese and European officials and experts on the implementation of anti-unfair competition legislation. The delegates, from the anti-unfair competition departments of SAIC and local AICs, will meet with European government agencies and academic and private institutions, as well as engaging the Chinese officials with judges and legal practitioners.
EU-China training for IP protection at trade fairs, Guilin, Zhejiang, Beijing, 12-16 July 2010
IPR2, together with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), entrusted by the Ministry of Commerce, will implement a training programme with Chinese companies and government officials on how to protect IP at trade fairs. European experts will present the leading IP protection measures in Europe, and explain how companies can prepare to make use of the system, supported by case studies from major exhibitions in Europe. In addition, the training will elaborate the role and scope of the recently introduced function of on-site mediation support for exhibitors.
EU-China workshop on revision of the Trademark Law, location to be confirmed, 21 to 23 July 2010
IPR2 is co-operating with the Legislative Affairs Commission (LAC) to organise a workshop on the revision of China’s Trademark Law, drawing on the expertise and experience of European academics, officials and practitioners working the field of trademark law, to address questions raised by the LAC officials responsible for drafting the new law, review and discuss its expected impact, and make suggestions relevant to the drafting work.
