| YEAR OF THE TIGER, THIRD YEAR OF IMPLEMENTATION FOR IPR2 |
The EU-China IPR2 Project is preparing to enter its third year of implementation following the start of the Chinese new year of the Tiger. The Project Steering Committee will meet in March to endorse the new Annual Work Plan.

UP & COMING STAKEHOLDER BRIEFING - Results and perspectives 2010: Third year of China's National IP Strategy, third year of IPR2 cooperation, Vienna, 22-23 April 2010 |
| In 2010 IPR2 enters its third year of implementation in China. At the same time, China is moving into a third year of its national IP strategy. A Stakeholder Briefing in the framework of the European Patent Office’s East Meets West forum 2010 will update stakeholders in Europe on IPR protection and enforcement in China in various areas (patents, copyright, trademark, etc) and on IPR2’s results and planning for the coming year. |

| STUDY TOUR – EU-China study tour on strengthening criminal IPR enforcement, United Kingdom, 1-3 February 2010 |
| A delegation of officials from the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) visited London on a study tour supported by IPR2 towards strengthening criminal enforcement of intellectual property rights in China. The delegates met with European IPR enforcement experts, police and industry as part of collaborating on advanced enforcement practices; and seeing how enforcement agencies and industry associations involved in anti-counterfeiting and piracy operate on the job. | The Office for Harmonisation of the Internal Market (OHIM) has launched 'Register Brand Europe', an online platform (in Chinese) to inform Chinese stakeholders on the main features of the EU's trademark and design systems. Register Brand Europe is accessible free-of-charge at www.registerbrandeurope.cn. The IPR2 Roadmaps for IP Protection - How to Register and Protect a Community Trademark and How to Register and Protect a Community Design – have been updated with this new reference. | Updated IP Protection Roadmap: Implementing Regulations for China's Patent Law, February 2010 |
| The Patent Protection in China issue in the IPR2 series 'Roadmaps for Intellectual Property Protection' has been updated in line with the new Implementing Regulations and Examination Guidelines issued by the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and which came into force on 1 February 2010, in accordance with the revised Patent Law of 1 October 2009. The Roadmap provides an overview of the Chinese patent system, indicating the main areas of the third revision which bring a number of substantial changes to the Chinese patent system; as well as the implementing rules for these amendments and updated examination guidelines, which set forth the procedural provisions governing all pending cases. Return to CeBIT: IP protection at trade fairs, Hanover, Germany, 2-6 March 2010
Progressing the successful experience at CeBIT 2009 and other European trade fairs, IPR2 will return to CeBIT 2010, together with the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) to host a mediation service to address and resolve IP disputes for Chinese and European exhibitors.
EU-China study tour on management of IP in Science and Technology programmes, 2-13 March 2010, Germany, Belgium and Sweden
IPR2 will support a study tour for a delegation of officials from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) on the management of intellectual property in Science and Technology programmes. The Department of Laws and Regulation of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) will head the delegation to Munich, Bonn, Brussels and Stockholm. The tour aims to inform Chinese decision-makers on the function and use of IPRs, resulting in a more transparent, predictable IP environment, and ultimately intensified legal use of IP.
IPR2 Project Steering Committee meeting 2010, Beijing, 8 March 2010
IPR2 will hold its third Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting together with the Chinese IP-related authorities and agencies partnering with the Project. The PSC provides all Beneficiaries with the opportunity to formally endorse the new Annual Work Plan for the third year of implementation.
EU-China workshop on application of Anti-Monopoly Law in IP, Changsha, Hunan Province, 11-12 March 2010
IPR2 is supporting the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) to organise a workshop on the implementation of the Anti-Monopoly Law in the IP area with a particular focus on questions related to the abuse of IPR.
EU-China training on patent enforcement - developments in Europe, 15-19 March 2010, Beijing
IPR2, in co-operation with the Institute for International Intellectual Property of Peking University is hosting a training session for patent judges, officials from the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and patent professionals on recent developments in the European and German patent systems.
EU-China workshop on China's design protection system, 26 March 2010, Paris
In the framework of IPR2, China's State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), together with France’s Institut National de la Propriété Industrielle (INPI) and the Office for Harmonisation of the Internal Market (OHIM), will hold a workshop in Paris on China's system for design protection. European industry and IP professionals investing in design protection are invited to participate.
EU-China workshop on trademark classification practice, Beijing, 25-26 March 2010
Under IPR2, the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market (OHIM) together with China's Trademark Office under the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) will hold a workshop on trademark classification practices in Europe and China.
