IPR2 undertook a number of activities in January 2010 - including training, workshops and study tours– covering administrative patent enforcement, protection of folklore and IP and standards and a new publication on online copyright infringement. STUDY TOUR – EU-China study tour on IP in standardisation, France and Germany, 23-31 January 2010
A delegation of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) officials completed a study tour to France and Germany, with the support of IPR2, meeting with standardisation bodies, industry and academia on the technical issues that exist between IP rights and standards.
   
       
 

TRAINING - EU-China training course on administrative patent enforcement, Xiamen, 25 – 28 January 2010
IPR2 organised an in-depth training for ground-level enforcement officials on substantive and procedural law related to administrative patent enforcement in China, in co-operation with the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and Xiamen University's IP Institute. The 4-day training helped to build the capacity of 20 enforcement officials from the local IP Offices of 4 provinces on the administrative patent enforcement system as well as on patent protection at customs and trade fairs, contributing to their daily work in handling patent infringement cases.
   
       
 
WORKSHOP - EU-China workshop on protection of folklore,
Haerbin, Heilongjiang, 23–24 January 2010
IPR2 organised a workshop on the protection of folklore in co-operation with the National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC), with 75 participants including NCAC officials, judiciary and academics. The workshop provided an overview of the existing mechanisms and practices in China and Europe and offered an interesting opportunity for interactive dialogue and open debate between the different participants.
   
       
 
TRAINING - Long-term training on European IP Law,
2009-2010, Munich, Germany
Five Chinese scholars selected from IP authorities in China to undertake a year-long Master of Laws (LL.M) at the Munich Intellectual Property Law Centre (MIPLC) have successfully completed their first three months of study. The intensive course covers the legal framework of international IP system and IP enforcement.
   
   
         
PUBLICATION - Online Copyright Liability: Leading European Cases
IPR2 has published a survey of the leading cases for online liability for copyright infringement in Europe. This forms part of IPR2’s co-operation with the Supreme People's Court (SPC), by way of informing the Chinese judiciary of existing European mechanisms and practices for protecting copyrights on-line. The publication highlights cases that demonstrate liability for web site operators and other users, hosting providers, hosting user generated content, access providers, hyper-linking, search engines and disclosure of personal data.Read more>>

The IPR2 series 'Roadmaps for Intellectual Property Protection' is now available on CD. The Roadmaps provide information on the IP systems in China and Europe and to give guidance to both European and Chinese companies in protecting their IP. Read more>>

E-LEARNING
Growing the IP knowledge base: IPR2 is developing a number of e-learning modules for broad-based learning on intellectual property protection on the basis of its training activities with officials, academia and industry. The first in the e-learning series – IP Protection at Trade Fairs in Europe can be downloaded free-of-charge from www.ipr2.org/elearning.

EU-China study tour on strengthening criminal IPR enforcement, United Kingdom, 1-3 February 2010
IPR2 is supporting a study tour by officials from the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) to London as part of strengthening criminal enforcement of intellectual property rights in China.

Return to CeBIT: IP protection at trade fairs, Hanover, Germany, 2-6 March 2010
Progressing the successful experience at CeBIT 2009 and other European trade fairs, IPR2 will return to CeBIT 2010, together with the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) to host a mediation service to address and resolve IP disputes for Chinese and European exhibitors.

EU-China workshop on application of Anti-Monopoly Law in IP, Changsha, Hunan Province, 11-12 March 2010
IPR2 is supporting the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) to organise a workshop on the implementation of the Anti-Monopoly Law in the IP area with a particular focus on questions related to the abuse of IPR.

EU-China training on patent enforcement - developments in Europe, 15-19 March 2010, Beijing
IPR2, in co-operation with the Institute for International Intellectual Property of Peking University is hosting a training session for patent judges, officials from the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and patent professionals on recent developments in the European and German patent systems.

IPR2 Stakeholder Briefing & East Meets West forum, Vienna, 22-23 April 2010
Results and perspectives 2010: Third year of China's National IP Strategy, third year of IPR2 cooperation: In 2010 IPR2 enters its third year of implementation in China. At the same time, China is moving into a third year of its national IP strategy. This briefing will update stakeholders in Europe on IPR protection and enforcement in China in various areas (patents, copyright, trademark, etc) and on the results and planning for IPR2.
